Roatan is visited by thousands of tourists from cruise ships throughout the year who stop for just one day on our beautiful island. If your cruise ship is stopping at the Town Center at Port of Roatan, here are some ideas to make the most of your one-day visit here.

Layout of the Town Center in Roatan

The Town Center at the Port of Roatan offers incredible convenience for cruise ship guests. As soon as you’ve disembarked, you’re in the middle of all the action!

The Port of Roatan can only accommodate one docked cruise ship at a time, so if your day in port coincides with another ship, you might be docked or you might need to tender to shore. Either way, as soon as you touch foot onto the pier you’ll see lots of shops and information available for shore excursions.

Organized shore excursions are picked up right at the bottom of the gangway. Some boat tours will pick up directly from the pier, while any other tours will head out to the parking area to board buses to their destinations.

The parking area also offers an approved taxi association offering set prices for various destinations around the island. Unless you request otherwise, when you arrange your taxi to take you somewhere, it is usually a round-trip deal and the taxi will wait to return you to the pier when you’re ready.

The whole Town Center at Port of Roatan is very flat and easy to walk around, so go ahead and leave the ship, walk around, and go explore the beautiful island of Roatan!

Shopping at Town Center at Port of Roatan

The Town Center offers many options for shopping immediately off your cruise ship. All of the shops and information kiosks are part of a single complex, making your day of shopping easy as you go from door-to-door.

You’ll find a duty free shop, multiple local shops offering specialized art and goods, as well as a few other chain names you might recognize.

Some popular Honduran gifts you might want to purchase include hand-rolled cigars, locally produced rum, locally made chocolate, Central American coffee, and a wide variety of incredible local art and jewelry.

You’ll also find a Roatan Marine Park shop to support the hard conservation work the community undertakes every single day for our diverse environment.

Things to Do at the Town Center in Roatan

The Town Center at Port of Roatan is small enough to enjoy in just a short visit. It is also conveniently located to reach a variety of destinations on the island very quickly.

You can walk to the main town of Coxen Hole from the port, although it is much more commercial than it is touristy. However, there are several local shops along the main road heading into town where you can purchase unique gifts.

There are several adventure activities available nearby, including Fort Consolation and several zipline canopy tours. West End and West Bay are both only about 20 minutes away by car, and multiple other activities are all within a 20-minute drive heading in nearly every direction.
