The Bay Islands Tourism Bureau is a member-based organization focused on the development of the tourism industry in the Bay Islands. Their vision is to make tourism the largest industry in the Bay Islands, through supporting the private sector and providing those businesses and individuals with the tools needed to achieve their goals.
The Bay Islands Tourism Bureau is dedicated to providing quality services to their members in an efficient way, ensuring continuous improvement in representing the tourism sector. Members include hotels and resorts, restaurants, activity providers, real estate agencies, transportation companies, and more.
Their ongoing initiatives include being on the Zolitur Board of Directors, lobbying for increased air services to the islands, guest service programs (i.e. airport volunteer greeter program), general Bay Islands marketing through online and print outlets, and supporting healthcare and education initiatives throughout the islands.
Bay Islands Tourism Bureau Airport Volunteers
When new immigration procedures were implemented at the Roatan International Airport in 2014, the Bay Islands Tourism Bureau took action to alleviate any issues for tourists.
Volunteers stay at the arrivals terminal from the time the first plane lands until the last plane’s passengers clear customs and immigration. Throughout this time, volunteers field questions and offer advice to incoming travellers. Their work has made a world of difference in the first impression tourists have upon arrival and they have become an integral part of the collaborative work of the tourism bureau.
Bay Islands Tourism Bureau Website and Social Media
In early 2016, the Bay Islands Tourism Bureau geared up to launch an updated website, and to build a social media presence for visitors to the Bay Islands.
In just a few short months, they added dozens of articles offering insights to tourists as they plan their vacation. Additionally, the tourism bureau’s Facebook page gained over 10,000 followers in just three months. With this increase in exposure, they hope to continue to push the Bay Islands as a premier destination.
