All About Port of Roatan

Port of Roatan cruise ship port located in Coxen Hole has scheduled a very busy season starting in October 2011, Tuesday through Friday. Port of Roatan receives Cruiseships from Norwegian, Royal Caribbean and other cruiselines. New Orleans is the departure point for Norwegian Star (Tuesday) and Spirit (Thursday). Various other cruiseships make Roatan a port of call throughout the cruising season from other departure points.

The Town Center has international brands, fine jewelry, designer boutiques, Duty Free Shops, gift shops, restaurants, waterfront bars, and live entertainment! The Town Center is open Monday thru Saturday, 8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. The demand for retail space and the positive response of cruise lines and visitors, supports the Port of Roatan announcement of a $45M expansion with the second phase of the project, which will add space to the retail and entertainment offerings at the Town Center and to accommodate berthing of larger class ships.

The Transportation Center is where guests who pre-purchase organized tours onboard their cruise vessels gather to depart to and return from their tours. The Transportation Center provides the option of last-minute tour booking or a simple embarkation point for a taxi ride around the island.

Shore excursions around Roatan include: diving, snorkeling, kayaking, swimming with dolphins, snuba, sailing, deep sea fishing, zipline through the Jungle Canopy, horseback riding on the beach, hiking through tropical forest, playing with monkeys and birds, visiting an iguana sanctuary, scooter rentals to tour by yourself, tours to see the Garifuna culture and dances performed, visit the Butterfly Garden, or arrange for a Massage and Spa day.

With all there is to do, combine some activities such as go sailing with stops for snorkeling, or zipline and play with the monkeys and birds or take a tour of the East end of the island that includes the iguana sanctuary and Garifuna center,

The beaches with clear water and beautiful white sand at West Bay is called Tabayana Beach and at West End is called Half Moon Bay Beach. Tabayana Beach, all the way to the western point has reef very close to the shore for snorkeling. You can rent snorkel gear, beach chairs, paddle boards, wake boards, and other water toys at either beach. Both beaches have refreshments and multiple food choices available.

Outside of Port of Roatan, just across the street, other tour companies are available for people who made private arrangements on the web or roving taxi’s are available. Or a half mile walk will take one into Coxen Hole. Taxi’s are available when you prefer to ride, as it gets a bit warm walking and you can change your mind as to your destination choice.

Port of Roatan is easy to get in and out of for those people who prefer to go their own way, away from the crowd, or for those who prefer to go with friends from the cruiseship, or living on Roatan, to enjoy the sights and activities around all of the island of Roatan.
