What kind of money can I use or should I bring?

The official currency is the Lempira. The rate versus the US dollar has been stable since 2005 at around 18.90 Lps to the US dollar. US dollars are accepted in tourist areas and especially the Bay Islands. Credit cards are accepted in the larger tourist areas and at most restaurants, resorts and stores. Cash advances can be taken on Visa cards at many banks. Also ATM machines can be used in the larger cities and tourist areas such as Roatan. Traveler's checks are not recommended as banks place a hold on them for 30 days. It is NOT recommended to bring any other currency than US dollars.
