Western Caribbean cruises on multiple cruise lines stop in Roatan, Honduras. There are two ports in Roatan, one owned by Carnival Corporation and the other partly owned by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.

If you’re visiting on any Carnival Corporation line (including Carnival, Princess, Oceania, Costa, P&O, Thomson, Holland America, or Regent Seven Seas), you will arrive in Isla Roatan at Mahogany Bay. This port is located on Roatan’s south shore, about 30 minutes from the main tourist areas of West Bay and West End.

If you’re coming to Roatan on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Norwegian Cruise Lines, or Celebrity Cruises, you will dock at the Port of Roatan in the capital of Coxen Hole, only about 15 minutes from West End or West Bay.

Whichever port your ship enters, you will have incredibly easy access to a variety of shore excursions. Here are our recommendations for the best shore excursions in Roatan that you just can’t miss…

Jolly Roger Catamaran Sailing and Snorkeling with Lunch

This tour is ideal if you want everything taken care of in advance for you. The Jolly Roger crew always goes above and beyond to take care of their guests, ensuring that everyone has a great time on board the catamaran and out in the water. If the winds are right, you can enjoy sailing back to port as you enjoy a delicious homemade local lunch and bottomless rum punch. Dancing is always encouraged for more afternoon fun!

Blue Harbor Tropical Arboretum

If you’re not a beach person, head to Blue Harbor Tropical Arboretum for a fun-filled day of exploring in the jungle and enjoying the local flora and fauna. Located only about 10 minutes from either port, Blue Harbor contains more than 160 acres of orchards and gardens, plus trails for hiking and to take in the stunning views from the hillside. A great option for the family, as the grounds are perfect for a picnic and for safe, easy exploration for young kids.

Extreme Roatan

Ready for a challenge? When you arrive in Isla Roatan, grab your family and friends for an exciting day of racing through the jungle, over obstacles, and up and down the hills of this gorgeous tropical island. Extreme Roatan is easy enough for families, but also offers a challenge if you want to race for victory. The course runs 2.5km along maintained paths, granting beautiful scenery and a fun day of muddy adventure. Pack extra clothes to change into after your race! A restaurant on-site is perfect for lunch before you head back to port.

Beacher’s Bar & Grill

Head to Beacher’s Bar & Grill on West Bay Beach for a day of fun in the sun. Snag a lounge chair on the beach – with or without a shade umbrella – and enjoy oceanfront bar and restaurant service. You can wade out into the tranquil Caribbean water or opt for a snorkeling jaunt nearby.

There are countless opportunities to arrange an island tour with one of many operators in Roatan. If you want to book your island tour in advance, there are a few you will find online that offer a multitude of itinerary options. Alternatively, you might choose to wait until you arrive to decide the type of island tour you want to do. Both ports offer taxi associations and private tour companies available for booking at the ports.

Another option to consider is the plethora of zipline canopy tours in Roatan. The island’s topography is perfect for this exhilarating activity, with lush rolling hills along the center of the island leading straight down to beaches along the shore. Again, there are plenty of options to book online in advance, or you can wait until you arrive and head to one of the many available at the ports.
